Arts and Crafts
"We at the Heathlands Project are pleased to announce the opening of our new Log cabin which is a specially designed studio workspace suitable for wheelchairs users"

The aim of the Art & Craft project is to:
• Provide opportunities for people with learning disabilities to participate in the arts on their own terms.
• To help people identify their individual aspirations & wishes, skills, abilities & choices thereby ensuring a person centred approach to enhancing artistic talent.
• To allow empowerment via artistic expression & to allow growth & development by a shared learning experience with others.
• Work towards enriching the community by increasing awareness of the value & diversity of artistic impression.
• Encourage community involvement through the arts, by both showing work made at Heathlands to a wider audience and through the extended schools initiative whereby local school children can visit and participate at the farm.

• To produce a range of fresh, exciting and innovative art.
• We believe the Visual art is a launuage that everyone can use to share culture, experience & feelings. It can also reflect an individual being part of his/her community & environment. Art making is traditionally viewed as an isolated activity; we shall offer the opportunity to interact with others – when making and marketing art.
• Educational program e.g. OCN qualification; guest artists; workshops.
• Exhibitions program e.g. Mencap shop/art sales, art auction
• Community centre/Tullie house & ongoing Heathlands exhibitions.
• Developing local community partnerships e.g. Prism arts; to install art at the Cumbria police vulnerable persons interview rooms; Carlisle United glass/window crests.
• Studio arts program. Members are encouraged to explore a wide variety of media, choose the media and the subject matter whilst exploring the creative process.
• Staffed by experienced and qualified Artists the log cabin will be a place 'buzzing' with activity & ideas for all.
