Catering The Heathlands Kitchen/Catering project is situated in the Farmhouse at Heathlands. Adapted and modernised at the end of 2008, the catering unit provides our members with training, development and work experience in catering. The kitchen caters for our members and staff which attend Heathlands. The facility also provides a small café style service for Glenmore Trust staff and their service users, and the wider general public which includes family/friends of our members who attend Heathlands. In addition, the local community, e.g. the people who attend Rockcliffe’s coffee mornings, visit the café as well as buying produce in our horticulture section.
One of the aims of the catering project is to promote good food hygiene and safety and to develop and enhance our members' understanding of the methods of cooking food, in order to promote independence and enjoyment of preparing and cooking food. In addition, our members realise the importance of 'clean as you go' practices, and efficient cleaning/sanitising procedures at the end of the day. In recognition of our registration with the Environmental Health Department, and in accordance with our Food Safety commitment to our members and the wider public; our staff at Heathlands all hold the Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate, with our main staff team – Catering Supervisor/Catering Support Worker recently achieving the Level 4 Advanced Food Safety qualification. Our members are inducted to the Catering project by watching the Safer Food, Better Business (SFBB) DVD, which covers key aspects – e.g. cooking, chilling, cleaning etc, and our personal hygiene policy is explained and re-enforced as and when necessary.
